China Program Internship

The Henry L. Stimson Center's China Program closely examines the strategic thinking and practices of the People's Republic of China (PRC) toward the region and the world. Key issues include the making and evolution of Chinese foreign policy; U.S.-China relations; and China's policy toward the Korean Peninsula, Japan, and Southeast Asian nations. The China Program staff conduct research for publications as well as hold public seminars to discuss timely topics.

Responsibilities of the intern can include:

  • Provide high quality research memos and copy/editing in support of current projects
  • Write reports on seminars
  • Assist in the coordination of program events
  • Track developments regarding Chinese foreign relations, especially U.S.-China relations, maritime disputes, and the interactions between China and regional players

Generally, a strong candidate for this position will have:

  • A strong interest in Chinese foreign policy and East Asian security/political issues
  • Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high quality work in both research and administrative tasks
  • A record of academic excellence and an academic background in China studies
  • Chinese language skills preferred and recommended, but not required

Although a successful candidate often is in an M.A. program, undergraduate students are also encouraged to apply. Applicants must be able to commit to a minimum of 20 hours per week. Preference may be given to those available 30+ hours per week. The internship is unpaid.
